Travel to Nepal with us in 2023!

It is that time of year again! We are excited to be planning our 2023 sponsor and donor trip to Nepal for September 29th to October 15th!

"Although a trip to the other side of the world is not something everyone can do; if you can go -even once- it is the best way to see first hand the impact that you make on the lives of our children. It is an emotional and joyful experience to meet the child you sponsor for the first time, see the Mitrata programs, and spend time with other friends of Mitrata who share your dedication to our mission. We have so much laughter, fun, and adventure exploring a country rich in history, incredible beauty, and amazing culture! I hope you join us this year!"

- Dr. Christine Schutz, Executive Director and Founder

Trip Details:

We are so excited to return to Nepal this year, and we would love to have many of our sponsors and donors join us in this incredible experience. The majority of the trip is focused on our Mitrata supported programs. We will meet the children studying and living in boarding school, visit the Contact Center, our early childhood program for school readiness, see children’s homes, meet school and BSF staff, and enjoy the Mitrata annual graduation ceremony. Trip attendees will take the children on at least one field trip and sponsors will have the opportunity spend personal time with their children too. Of course, there is always shopping for beautiful Nepali handicrafts and exploration of the fascinating city of Kathmandu and surrounding areas.

This year, we are offering two options for a side trip outside of the Kathmandu Valley to the resort town, Pokhara. We will fly roundtrip from Kathmandu to Pokhara. The first option is to explore the resort town, monastery, the Mountain Museum, enjoy Phewa lake, take day hikes and overnight at a resort in the mountains. The second option is for a 2-hour jeep ride up the mountain and then a 2-day hike to Poon Hill, with an elevation of about 10,000 feet and beautiful views of the Himalayas.

Cost:

The cost of the trip is roughly $2,800 per person not including airfare. This cost covers hotels with breakfast, domestic flights, admission to cultural sites, air conditioned van transportation, and guides. Other meals, taxis, tips, and souvenirs are not included and are usually paid for in Nepali rupees. The current exchange rate for rupees to dollars is 130 RS = 1 USD. Air travel costs vary from year to year, and an economy roundtrip ticket to Kathmandu has previously averaged between $1,800 and $2,500 per person.

Questions and Concerns:

If you would like to participate but still have many questions and concerns, you are not alone! Once we have our group established, we will schedule several dates for meetings in person or remote via Zoom to address questions and finalize the trip details. This is a very convenient time to discuss the trip, how to pack, and what to expect as a group. We go over a detailed agenda and address any questions to ensure safe and fun travel. We hope you will join us on this exploration of Nepal and the Mitrata programs.
