Thinking Ahead to Mitrata’s Future
There are a few weekends each year that are filled to the brim with Mitrata events. September 5 - 7, 2025 was one of those weekends. The first two events centered around thinking ahead. They were almost entirely focused on planning for the future of the organization. The third event was a bit different; it was a celebration of the work currently being done to support Mitrata and the individuals involved in that effort.
Nancy Williger Legacy Circle Party
The Nancy Williger Legacy Circle honors those who share our commitment to maximally impact the lives of severely underprivileged Nepali children by making a planned legacy gift to ensure Mitrata’s sustainability in the future.
Members of the Nancy Williger Legacy Circle are invited to an annual dinner party. This year, the party took place on Friday, September 5, 2025. Event attendees had the opportunity to spend time catching up with one another over Nepali food and wine. A brief program followed with a short welcome message from both Mitrata’s Executive Director and Founder, Dr. Christine Schutz, and Legacy Circle Founder, Dr. Nancy Williger. Then, Jim Craig, Mitrata’s Past-President and longtime child sponsor, shared why he chose to become a Legacy Circle Member. Mitrata’s Board Treasurer, Ambrose Bittner, also spoke briefly about how Mitrata plans to steward the Legacy Gifts we receive. Attendees also received special program updates through an annual Legacy Report.

Strategic Planning
The year 2026 will usher in a new five-year Strategic Plan for Mitrata. Last September, the board began the planning process for this new Strategic Plan. Over the past few months, board members spent time meeting with their various committees to continue fleshing out individual items of this plan. On September 6, 2025, the board met to discuss the work completed by the committees and approve the new Strategic Plan moving forward. The board also reviewed and approved the upcoming three-year budget.
We were very thankful to have most of our out-of-town board members attend the meeting in person, while those who couldn’t make the trip joined us virtually through Zoom!
A big “Thank You!” to Len for leading us through a short stretching session after lunch to keep our minds and bodies fresh for the afternoon!
Miles for Mitrata Kids Celebration Picnic
On September 7, 2025, we gathered to celebrate the hard work of our 2025 Miles for Mitrata Kids (M4MK) participants. Not everyone who attended this picnic was a M4MK participant, but all were excited to gather together for a celebration! Thank you to everyone who participated in the potluck and spent the afternoon with us. It was a beautiful time filled with food, fun, and gorgeous sunshine!
We currently have 25 M4MK participants who have raised over $16,000 to support our Contact Center graduates until they are fully sponsored. Our goal is to have 50 participants and raise $36,000 by December 2025. Are you willing to help us reach our goal?
If you are interested in registering for M4MK, donating in support of one of our participants, or simply donating to the event, visit https://mitrata.akaraisin.com/ui/M4MK2025.
