Spring 2026 Nepal Trip
Every year in the spring, Mitrata sends a member of the staff or board to Nepal. This year, Mitrata Board Vice-President, Danny Williger has been in Nepal visiting with the BSF team, the children at the Contact Centers, and the older students in school. The trip is an opportunity to monitor progress, exchange letters that allow the children and sponsors to stay connected, and take lots of pictures and videos to share with the sponsors back in the states.
Here is a message from Danny about his visit to Nuwakot:
“When I arrived in Nepal, I took a trip to the Nuwakot District with BSF Board President Yogesh Satyal and his son Himalaya. BSF, the Bhuvaneshwori Satyal Foundation, is Mitrata’s NGO partner on the ground in Nepal. Nuwakot is an area where some of the children Mitrata and BSF serve spent their early childhood, and where they return to visit family and friends for festivals and holidays. Nuwakot is an area of great beauty and rich cultural traditions, but also an area where access to high quality education is severely limited. This experience left me with a greater understanding of the challenges that make the road to a healthy and productive life in an emerging Nepal so difficult and why the work Mitrata and BSF do is so impactful.”
At the Contact Centers, Danny meet with children from several of the day schools to share letters with them from their sponsors while older students and teachers helped the younger kids write letters back. The older students were volunteering their time as a way to repay the program where they had their own start. When Danny spoke with them, they expressed gratitude for the opportunity to give back to the program that set them on their way to educational success. And success they have had. Six of the students who are at the end of 10th grade have recently completed their Secondary Education Exam (SEE) and all 6 passed! This is a huge milestone for students in Nepal as the test is only given once a year and students must pass this exam in order to further their education. Across the country, the pass rate is only about 66%, but students that come out of Mitrata/BSF have over a 99% pass rate!
Danny shared this message about what he witnessed at the Contact Centers:
“The ongoing success of the students I saw in the Contact Centers is a testament to the power of Mitrata and the programs we support. These kids are living examples of what can be accomplished when people with compassion, foresight and the willingness to do hard things band together to give hope and resources to those who would otherwise lack what they need to grow into lives of health, service, and prosperity. The kids we help in Nepal only need what any child needs. Safety, encouragement, structure, good health, compassion, love and support. As sponsors, donors, and supporters of Mitrata, this is what you help provide. The smiles and laughter of the kids, from the smallest to the budding professional, are all I need to know that what we are accomplishing is nothing short of miraculous.
To all of you who support Mitrata and the work we do for the wonderful children of Nepal, I offer my grateful thanks. Without you, none of what I witnessed in Nepal could have occurred.”
