Join us in Nepal in 2024

We are excited to invite you to join us for our Sponsor Trip to Nepal.

November 1-17, 2024

"What a marvelous trip! I was amazed by one thing after another: the chaotic streets of Kathmandu, the friendliness of the Nepali people, the professionalism and compassion of the BSF staff, the happiness on the faces of our Mitrata children, the organization of the schools, the simplicity and difficulty of family life, the rich history found everywhere, the beauty of the countryside, and the strength and love of my travel companions.

These experiences of my first trip to Nepal were eye-opening and heart-opening in ways that continue to affect me today."

- Jackie Schmitt, First Time Trip Attendee in 2023 and Mitrata Staff Member

About the Trip:

The majority of the trip is spent with our Mitrata-supported programs, visiting our Contact Centers, engaging with our partner NGO, and learning about life in Nepal. Every year, we have a special project, a field trip (zoo/fun park), and a wonderful graduation program. We have several children graduating this year, so if your sponsored child is graduating, we hope that you can join the trip. We make every effort to give you time with your sponsored child, which is so important. If this is not your first trip with us, we will continue to schedule new experiences for you. We also leave time for free exploration and shopping.

This year, we are offering two options for our side trip outside of the Kathmandu Valley.

In the first option, we will fly roundtrip from Kathmandu to Pokhara to explore the resort town, monastery, and Mountain Museum, enjoy Phewa Lake, take day hikes, and overnight at a resort in the mountains. A note on the domestic flights in Nepal: we fly on Buddha Air, considered one of the oldest and most reliable domestic carriers. It is a routine short flight into the new international airport in Pokhara (elevation below Kathmandu), not a flight into higher mountains.

The second option is participating in the 6-day Pikey Peak trek, a hidden treasure that combines breathtaking mountain panoramas, cultural immersion, and tranquil natural beauty. It’s a trek that appeals to those seeking a quieter and less crowded experience in the Himalayas. It offers remarkable views of 11 Himalayan peaks, including Everest, Kanchenjunga, and Manaslu, and encounters with the Sherpa culture.

The Details:

Cost of the trip per person for single room lodging is $3000; for shared room is $2800. This cost covers hotels with breakfast, domestic flights, admission to cultural sites, air conditioned van transportation, and guides. Other meals, taxis, tips, and souvenirs are not included and are usually paid for in Nepali rupees. The current exchange rate for rupees to dollars is 130 RS = 1 USD. Note that your airline cost is separate from the trip cost. Air travel costs vary from year to year, and an economy roundtrip ticket to Kathmandu typically averages around $2,000 to $2,500 per person. Usually fares go up so registering sooner may keep your cost lower.

We strive to help make you as comfortable as possible leading up to the trip, as well as for the duration of the trip. We will set up several dates for meetings in person or remotely (for those out of town) prior to the trip, so we can address any questions or concerns. These meetings also enable the trip attendees time to get acquainted. This is a very convenient time to discuss the trip itinerary, how to pack, and what to expect as a group. We will go over a detailed agenda and address any questions to ensure safe and fun travel.
