About the Home

The children’s home in Naya Bazaar is a three story brick building short walk to the Manasalu Public School which most of the children attend. This is an excellent school where the children learn English, essential to working as an adult in Nepali society. They have special uniforms that look formal with ties and pants. The Mitrata home has many staff as it takes a lot of helpers to feed, cook, clean clothes and nurture the children. All of this is done without washers and dryers or dishwashers. The diet of the children consists of "dal-bhat", rice and dal, the typical Nepali meal. However, due to nutritional deficiencies in this diet, extra protein, fruits, vegetables and milk are added. Because our children are often behind in school, tutors are provided in the home and there is much emphasis on study time everyday. Of course, there is time for play and exercise too and even a little Tai Chi taught by one of the staff.
